ATLANTA, Oct. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- To help law enforcement agencies be more successful with their field training officer programs from recruiting to evaluating officer performance, LexisNexis Risk Solutions will highlight its fully automated web-based LexisNexis Law Enforcement Automated Personnel System (LEAPS) at the upcoming International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference, held in Philadelphia, October 21-24, 2017. LEAPS is a personnel management and training solution designed by field training officers and built by active law enforcement officers, to reform outdated internal training and employee processes – ones that include three-ring binders, clipboards, and "testing versus training" mindsets.

"One of the main challenges for FTO programs across the country is determining what's causing high washout rates among recruits where agency time and community resources have been invested in training. Coupled with the disorganization and lack of insight that comes with a three-ring binder training system, agencies are setting themselves up for further accountability issues when information is incomplete or missing," said Randy Burkhammer, Director, LexisNexis Coplogic Solutions, and recently retired officer of more than 28 years. "We developed LEAPS to help with today's recruits, who grew up around technology and will have a lot of pressure in this job to serve and protect in life and death situations."

Burkhammer added, "It's a game-changer to be able to take the data, do a quick analytical deep dive and clearly identify where you need to focus training. When the FTO jumps in the car with a recruit, he or she can say, here's where you're good, here's where you need help and here's what we're going to do about it."

Today, more than 40 agencies across the country are using LEAPS and its fully automated field training components to help comply with their training requirements. Among the features agencies can access are automatic alerts and CAD integration, which can save time, help focus trainers and recruits, and are more accurate than a paper-based system. LEAPS is web-based, completely paperless and accessible on any internet-enabled device. LEAPS can also be used for any agency position that requires documentation.

"To maintain the highest level of efficiency for approximately 60,000 calls for service we receive annually, we have to incorporate state of the art equipment with innovative in-house training programs. Using LEAPS as our FTO program helps us ensure our recruits have the best training opportunity to be successful in serving our community," said Captain David Castle of Winter Haven (Fla.) Police Department.

LEAPS for employees includes these components:

  • Performance Evaluations—Keep track of every performance evaluation and automatically receive alerts for negative performance trends and low ratings.
  • Training Compliance—Ensure that staff qualifications and certifications are up to date. Agency staff can receive alerts when renewals are due and administrators can run reports to immediately identify any lapses.
  • Update Verification—Confirm that all staff have been alerted and have read any updates to policies or procedures.
  • Training Tracking—Identify and record all training courses attended and completed by staff.

"Agencies have told us that they consider LEAPS a force multiplier because it allows them to do more with less thanks to an easy-to-use interface and streamlined processes," said Roy Marler, Vice President and General Manager, LexisNexis Coplogic Solutions. "Our goal is to help agencies be successful so they can spend more time where they are most needed, whether that's training recruits on how to be prepared to serve their communities, or taking the next important call in the field."

LexisNexis Coplogic Solutions provides a suite of web-based tools aimed at helping improve how law enforcement agencies manage crash, community online incident reporting, citation data and FTO programs. The Coplogic Solutions portfolio can enable:
