Annual list recognizes leaders who are transformational agents for social change

International Data Corporation (IDC) today announced IDC Smart Cities Strategies Vice President Ruthbea Yesner has been recognized as one of the 50 Most Impactful Smart Cities Leaders at World CSR Day, taking place in Taj Lands End, Mumbai. The annual listing is a tribute to those who are missionaries, passionate about social innovation, and believe that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) leadership must contribute to social change. World CSR Day, founded by Dr. R. L. Bhatia, pays tribute to these leaders who are transformational agents for social change.

The annual list is developed based on intense industry research to identify those individuals who are doing extraordinary work and demonstrate a proven track record of achievement. The shortlist is then reviewed by a jury of senior professionals from around the globe. Finalists must demonstrate the following:

  • Resolve existing social, cultural, economic, and environmental challenges
  • Perspectives collide to spark new ways of thinking
  • Creation, development, adoption, and integration of new concepts
  • Underlying magic to social innovation that precludes any simple recipe for success

As Vice President, Yesner spearheads IDC's Smart City research worldwide with a focus on governance, innovation, partnerships, and business models essential for smart city development. Her research also examines the Internet of Things, big data and analytics, cloud computing, mobility, and social media in public works, transportation, public safety, smart water, community engagement and, open data initiatives.

A published author, Yesner's notable accomplishments include a chapter on the first developmental model for smart cities in Smart Cities for a Bright Sustainable Future: A Global Perspective, published by the Public Technology Institute (PTI) and the Global Institute. Her latest publication explores smart city measurements and assessments in Managing for Social Impact: Innovations in Responsible Enterprise, published by Springer. She is also a frequent speaker and panelist at industry events.
