MIAMI, Feb. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Delray Beach, a sand and surf mecca along
Florida's southeast coast, is
the most expensive destination in Florida. That finding is according to the
latest survey conducted by MiamiHotels.org.
The survey specifically compared the hotel rates of 30 popular
Floridian destinations for February and March 2018. This time period was selected because
it represents the high season for most beach destinations in
the Sunshine State.
In Delray Beach, travelers will
have to spend an average of $324 per
night in the most affordable double room. It bears pointing out
that only hotels rated at least 3 stars and located close to
the beach/city center were considered by the survey.
Sanibel and Fort Myers Beach follow Delray Beach as the second and third most
expensive destinations. Both locales are averaging overnight rates
of just over $300 this February and
March.
Key West, which was the
priciest destination two years ago when the same survey was
conducted, ranks fourth most expensive this year. A rate of
$284 nightly puts it just outside the
Top 3. According to Diane
Muller, spokesperson for MiamiHotels.org, the drop in
ranking is most likely related to Hurricane Irma, which has made
Key West and Key Largo 20% to 25% more affordable than they
were last year.
A more surprising discovery is that Panama City Beach ranks as the least expensive
destination in the state. While two years ago, a visitor had to
spend $146, on average, for an
overnight stay in the least expensive room, that rate has now
dropped to $107.
The following table lists the 10 most expensive destinations in
Florida. The rates indicated
reflect the average rate for the cheapest available double
room (minimum 3-star hotel) at each locale for the time period
spanning February 1
through March 31, 2018.
1. Delray Beach $324
2. Sanibel $303
3. Fort Myers Beach $302
4. Key West $284
5. Downtown Miami $254
6. Sarasota $253
7. Boca Raton $246
8. Pompano Beach $229
9. Key Largo $224
10. Islamorada $224
