Barclays PLC (BARC.LN) said Thursday that it is experiencing technical problems with its online banking and some of its branch services.

The British lender's mobile services were unaffected by the problems, as were cash withdrawals and card payments. However, the bank said online and telephone services were unavailable.

"We're currently experiencing some technical problems--customers are still able to use Barclays Mobile Banking app to check their balance, make and receive payments," a Barclays spokesperson said.

Barclays said it is working on fixing the issue but gave no timeframe as to when it would be resolved. According to its U.K. website, online banking services had been down since late morning local time.

U.K. regulators warned in July that they may push banks to define acceptable maximum outage times, after Banco de Sabadell SA's (SAB.MC) U.K. business TSB Bank suffered a prolonged outage in April which led to a 176.4 million pounds ($234.4 million) charge, largely due to compensation costs.
