--A lawsuit brought against Nestle SA and Cargill that alleges the companies perpetuated child slavery has been reinstated by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, although the court didn't rule on the merits of the plaintiff's claims, Reuters reported Tuesday.

--The lawsuit alleges the companies aided and abetted the abuses by buying from cocoa from farms in the Ivory Coast, the report said.

--The suit was first brought in 2005, and named Cargill, Nestle and Archer-Daniels-Midland Co. as defendants, though ADM was later dismissed from the suit, the report said.

--The companies have denied the allegations, Reuters said, adding that Nestle said it disagreed with the decision and Cargill didn't reply to a request for comment.
