Another interesting bit of Info
24 October 2005 / For immediate release Companies get R&D support from Alberta Ingenuity dollars EDMONTON — Alberta companies are expanding their research and development programs with assistance from the latest round of the Alberta Ingenuity Industrial Associates program. Alberta Ingenuity operates the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Science and Engineering Research, an endowment that fuels research excellence and innovation in Alberta universities, colleges and companies, for the long-term economic prosperity of the province. Through the program, six companies have hired researchers to solve problems in sustainable energy, manufacturing processes, conducting “virtual biopsies,” visualizing underground oil deposits, and developing micro-scale DNA analysis tools. “Ingenuity is crucial to the success of Alberta companies,” said Dr. Peter Hackett, President and CEO of Alberta Ingenuity. “Today’s current economic prosperity is the result of innovators who built this province’s industries through tenacious research and innovation. Alberta still needs research pioneers to add value to Alberta companies and ensure long-term prosperity.” Several of the current award recipients, just like Alberta’s founding innovators, are working on advances in energy extraction methods. Recipients in this round of funding include:
Quadrise Canada Fuel Systems, Calgary -Patrick Brunelle
recipients PATRICK BRUNNELLE QUADRISE CANADA FUEL SYSTEMS, INC. CALGARY
Alberta’s abundance of bitumen and heavy oil has the potential to fuel the Canadian economy for years to come, provided that it is used in a safe and environmentally friendly manner. This project, combined with other Quadrise research projects on emission control technologies, will explore possible ways to use Alberta’s bitumen and heavy oil as an alternative to natural gas. It will also provide knowledge for related areas, such as improved extraction efficiency and tailings treatment technologies. The potential? New domestic and international markets and applications for Alberta bitumen and heavy oils will be opened. At the same time, Canada’s dwindling natural gas supplies can be conserved for other more value-added industrial and home heating needs.
