The International Heavy Oil Conference
Addressing the Critical Crossroads in Water, Labour, Energy and Productivity

Event Date: 15-16 February 2006
Location: The Hyatt Regency, Calgary, Canada

Infrastructure Development Plans and Thinking from the Regional Issues Working Group
Identifying and Mapping the Best Pathways for Greenhouse Gas Reductions
Preparing the Industry for Gasification
Improving the Performance and Reliability Management of Upgrading Operations

"Explore and weigh all available options to make the right choices in extraction and separation"
Massive and far reaching changes and decisions await the heavy oil industry throughout Alberta - each with their own challenges and rewards. Correlate and benchmark the options for your plant while receiving new Government initiatives to increase skilled labor and infrastructure

The recent rises in oil prices has become vital the heavy oil industry, garnering firm interest from overseas as well as State visits from U.S officials to Alberta. However, as more operators flock to the region the pressures on the environment and US heavy crude refinery capacity needs to be monitored very carefully. Some predict that the greenhouse gas emissions will render it impossible for Canada to meet its Kyoto Treaty obligations but few can say how provincial or federal government will react should this become the case. Skilled engineering and construction labor remains scarce, exacerbated by strained infrastructure. At the same time valuable research has been undertaken to enhance productivity in the field and the upgrader and the industry is on the verge of bringing that research to fruition.

Building on the success of the inaugural “Oil Sands E&P” Conference, The International Heavy Oil Conference, renamed due to international attendance and speakers, is essential attendance for operators considering gasification, grappling with emissions, stretched in manpower, in need of product slate policies and wrestling with congestion. It is also suited to those seeking to better manage upgraders or ascertain more cost-effective ways of extracting bitumen. With two of the most successful South American operators also playing key speaking and moderating roles, top practitioners will use the conference to explore groundbreaking options with peers from both regions to extrapolate the right answers. The highly interactive format of power lunches, executive roundtables, think tanks and panel discussions provides that intense participation along with rigorous debate and benchmarking to deliver the most productive and insightful analysis of these critical issues. Attendees will expect to come away with invaluable new perspectives and far deeper knowledge upon which to base these pivotal decisions.
