For YooMedia, I do not see DVB-H as a short or even medium term opportunity given the lead times involved. A more promising route is High Speed Dowlink Packet Access (HSDPA), a backwardly compatible data tranmission protocol that will work on existing 3G networks. This is essentially "3.5G", offering effective data speeds improvements of 10 to 30 times. O2 have trialled in the Isle of Man and intend to launch next year. It is a relatively straightforward upgrade at the network level but does require new handsets. Samsung is currently working on such phones for Vodafone and there are already compatible datacards available for laptops. I believe that this will provide for a significant drop in the cost of data transmission in the medium term on 3G networks (as well as greater overall capacity). Existing music and video services on 3G will be greatly improved and laptops with compatible datacards will have access to high-speed broadband connectivity, independent of wi-fi hotspots.
Currently, we are developing our BroadbandTV technology for the purposes of enabling advanced rich-media 3G services on existing 3G networks (as recently announced). HSDPA will provide even greater commerical opportunities for the application of this technology.
