I have seen an ad on ADVFN for a subscriber "system" by Patrick Collier (£478 p.a).

Waste of money. Patrick Collier probably doesn't actually trade Options, if he is a real person.
The majority, if not all, of the "Tips" will be to BUY Options at prices you will never actually get. Added to that your trading charges will be high.
Trading Options is NOT like trading Shares. If you do not understand them, don't do it!!!
If you do understand them, you should be able to explain why bought Calls can go down in value as the Share price rises. Something that people find hard to grasp at first!
