Online shoppers give Christmas boost to Amazon
By Joe Bolger
AMAZON, the online bookseller, yesterday reported a surge in pre-Christmas deliveries amid signs that shoppers are becoming increasingly confident about buying online.
The internet retailer, which also sells toys, music, electronics and home goods, said that its British business had delivered up to 480,000 items each day in the weeks running up to Christmas. That compares with a peak of 400,000 products a day before Christmas last year.
This year the group shipped more than 108 million orders globally in the month to Christmas Day, as soaring demand for MP3 players, such as Apple’s iPod, drove sales of electronics products.
