LONDON (AFX) - The UK Competition Commission said it has published an issues
statement as part of its enquiry into the supply of liquefied petroleum gas
(LPG) for domestic use.
The CC said it will look at market structure, including whether the high degree
of market concentration (four suppliers account for 90 pct of the supply of LPG
affects competition; switching between suppliers, and whether issues such as
lengthy contract terms and notice periods and suppliers' ownership of tanks
inhibit switching; barriers to entry and expansion, including whether would-be
entrants are at a disadvantage to incumbent suppliers, particularly in a market
with relatively few new customers; and pricing, including whether a possible
lack of price transparency makes it difficult for customers to compare
suppliers' prices.
