Well the time draws near for all the High St retailers.....
Presently short nxt and will probably do the same to mks and deb on monday.
why?
Well from the shopping malls I saw (Watford and Harrow) both nxt and mks had more staff than customers on the run up to xmas. Deb in Harrow the same story.
Sales do not count. Shifting stock at reduced prices (i.e no or little profit) to make room for the spring lines is not a good way to boost figures.
The footfall survey made poor reading (-7% yoy) and proves that people have stayed away. The consumer has become wise and will only accept sale prices.
Noticed Walmart in US showed poor figures for xmas. Is the US sneezing?
