FWIW, I find gathering all the information for the tax return is the most tiresome part and I'd still have to do that, even if I employed a member of the proletariat to do my return, so doing the calculation merely entails setting aside some time to run the numbers.
My tax affairs aren't really complicated enough to require tax saving advice IMHO and I accept paying my fair share of tax as an occupational hazard of what I do. Pro rata, I'm pretty sure that I pay a lot less tax than if I was employed and on PAYE, so I can't complain(although I will!)...
