Actually he does have a point. No, not about snowy but about the psychological drivers behind being a football 'fan'.
Why exactly do we leap up and down when 'our' team scores and what exactly makes it our team? Why do we feel the need to be part of a gang? What reward do we get when our teams scores?
Being a fan is really a bit like playing a computer game. Sometimes enthralling but when it's over there is a kind of 'so what?' factor.
Then again, when I put my well worn Istanbul video on, it all somehow seems to make sense.
