LONDON (AFX) - The latest round in the long-running dispute over gas
supplies between Russia to Ukraine highlights the need for a "coherent" EU
energy policy, Prime Minister Tony Blair's spokesman said.
While insisting there was no immediate threat to British domestic supply "in
any substantial way by this dispute", there were "clearly problems" for other EU
states.
"In terms of the immediate situation in Europe, EU gas storage will act as a
temporary buffer," he said, adding that a government trade and industry official
will attend a technical meeting tomorrow on the issue at the European
Commission.
