URBIUM SET FOR A ROARING XMAS
mi££ions - Wed, 01 Jan 03 :
VIXEN,
I went to the Leeds Tiger Tiger on 23rd December too:
It was an extremely rainy night and I don't know Leeds too well so our taxi drove around the Loop Road until we saw a few decent looking pubs. I have been to the Yates in Boar Lane in the past and also the large Wetherspoon's so we thought we'd try one of the other busier areas. Our taxi driver didn't know how to get to the Pitcher & Piano, which we requested (since the east side is supposed to be the busiest part of Leeds). When I noticed the large orange TIGER TIGER sign I asked him to drop us there (why the hell not, eh?!).
We entered the bar at the front which contained maybe 100-150 people at around 8PM. The first thing I noticed was the lack of draught pumps and I thought, "Hey up (since I've become an adopted Yorkshireman!), I'm going to pay £3 for a bottle of Bud..." which works out at £6 a pint! My wife noticed a lack of her favourite alco-pops (Orange & Passionfruit Reef, Cranberry Red or Pineapple Bacardi Breezer) so I suggested she moves 'upmarket' with a Taboo or Vodka & Orange! There were two staff serving, one of which wandered off whilst we were stood at the bar. A young couple (early 20's?) next to us decided to give up waiting and walked out. The remaining barmaid (is that sexist...should I say female barperson?) was serving some champers to a group of xmas revellers dressed in 3-piece suits with ties and white scarves (you could call them Hooray Henries but I would call them inexperienced clubbers...the sort of people that stay in most saturdays with a cup of cocoa and a Dungeons & Dragons book!). After waiting a further 3 or 4 minutes we decided we would go elsewhere for our first drink. We went to the bar next door, the one with Jongleurs through the back. Again, fairly quiet except for a few once-a-year boozers making fools of themselves on the dance-floor. We ended up at a Wetherspoon’s and bought a table full of drinks for about £10 then went for a really good Italian meal...not at Tiger Tiger. We decided not to bother with the Tiger nightclub due to the poor service in the bar and because I’ve heard they make you stand outside for a while to make the club look popular to passers-by. We were already like a couple of drowned rats and didn’t fancy getting even wetter!
I wish I could be more positive. Sorry.
