The article below at least shows one person in Iran is aware the Iranian Govt. could do a lot more to attract foreign investment. The recent municipal elections perhaps showed that the policy of creating enemies abroad, blaming them for domestic problems and silencing critics is less popular now?
Iran should provide preconditions for attracting foreign investment: official
TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Iran has a high potential for attracting foreign investment but gets only a small share of the market, an official with the Domestic and Foreign Investors' Association on Tuesday.
The head of the association, Hossein Salimi, told IRNA that Iran is extremely rich in mineral and raw materials but has managed to attract only $3 billion in direct foreign investment (FDI) as against the total of $920 billion invested worldwide.
Pointing to the meager amount invested in the country, Salimi said foreign investors can be encouraged to invest more in the country if there was greater political and economic security.
He said that although domestic security was not a problem in Iran, only a small number of foreign investors find the country attractive for investment.
Salimi concluded by saying he believes by resolving Iran's political problems in the international arena more foreign investment will pour into the country.
