Telegraph praises G.Brown over SIPPs



....this newspaper has highlighted on more than one occasion the potential pitfalls of allowing the everyday investor to invest his or her holiday home or cases of wine into a pension. The pitfalls come from greedy salesmen taking advantage of Sipps, which happen to fall outside the jurisdiction of the Financial Services Authority.

Unregulated property developers and estate agents have been promoting schemes highlighting the tax breaks available from property investments – particularly those overseas – made through a Sipp.

Mis-selling was being mooted before the event. Several Sipp providers had already raised concerns about accepting "exotica" because there would have been no comeback had an investor been duped by a scam.

Brown has made the right decision.
