pbracken,
Is knowledge advancing or is that the perception because there are more streams of information?
Short term I think the likes of Charles Saatchi hijacked art promoting 'conceptual' garbage. On the whole. He turned it into a media/marketing exercise and managed to pull in institutions such as the Royal Academy, for a while. Damien Hurst's exhibition of his own collection at the Serpentine is like looking at the death thows of that era. They sent out so many tickets for the private view that even those who had tickets couldn't get in. The idea being to produce photographs in the media of long queues, I imagine, in an attempt to promote an image of popularity. Pathetic. Fortunately some of that kind of rubbish, much of it CS's, went up in a warehouse fire. Hmmm, nothing like getting out at the top. Sadly whole collections like Patric Heron's also went up with them. Brilliant painterly painters, abstract colourists, that the eye has been encouraged to ignore are out there.
So the advance pb will be in the reappraisal of what is there rather than the art itself. That's always been the way with art.
Keep TRT shares in my view. Buy primitive and painterly, sell conceptual. NIA.
