Zuke - quite sure about this. The subject has been extensively discussed by the Torotrak message board on the Ample III site. There was a lot of political opposition to ivt in Ford USA because their powertrain group were backing cvt and semi toroidal and there was going to be a lot of lost face if they had to change to ivt. Because of this the Ford management said all the initial assessment had to be done by the Quality? Group consisting of jaguar, LandRover and volvo. The testing was done in the UK using Ford Expeditions.
These were the same vehicles driven by shareholders at the last AGM when they had rave reviews. A number of the contributors on the Ample III board went up to Leyland to do the test drives and it was there that they got the information about the UK testing by Ford.
