Well actually, Crystal, unless RJ is telling porkies, I am right – Mazda needed Torotrak patents to build their (half-toroidal) gearbox. They wouldn’t have done this if they didn’t have to, hence Torotrak patents are (in their opinion, not mine) vital for building a toroidal gearbox. Agreed it’s speculation as to whether they could circumvent them, but it’s not speculation that they would either have to or agree a deal with Torotrak. Or wait twenty years until they expire.
I’d like to believe that your ‘check’ would be useful for either of us, but don’t. In any case nothing’s stopping your evaluation – just print out all the Torotrak patents (400 or so at the last count?) and assess them individually and as a combined set. Add in some value for the IP you don’t know about because it’s still in R&D or the patent filing process. Assign a monetary value and Bob’s your uncle. Bit hard eh? Suggest you return to calculating oil pressures. Preferably on the Antonov board.
