How efficient do you think the transmissions on your hybrid cars will be, and what sort of transmission do you think they will use? Old inefficient 4-speed automatics with torque converters? IVT? etc.
The existing hybrids are combustion engines that can draw a little electric power from the battery to help when power is required. If the car becomes mainly electric, then it is no longer really a hybrid, it becomes a glorified milk-float if it is recharged, or a fuel cell car if the electricity is generated onboard.
Battery cars are not a solution, as I mentioned before. And I don't think decent fuel cell cars are as close as other people think. Either they have to hydrogen powered and there is the questions of hydrogen generation and distribution, or they are gas/petrol powered and even harder to build.
