As has been said, it isn't the manufacturers who choose. The market prevails, diesel performance and appeal had to get very close to petrol engines performance, ie, noise level, speed and drive-ability plus the cost advantage.
Who wants a vehicle that takes hours to charge, limited in range, no noise. Or, requires a side by side petrol or diesel engine that keeps the batteries charged and has to be so light in weight as to be unsafe?
Do you realise what it will cost the nation in fencing the roads off? If a vehicle makes no noise we will be run over without realising it, hence the fencing. :))
