Torc Us Through 2005
lefrene - Sat, 22 Oct 05 :
As ever the lure of just 1% of the car market = 7 million vehicles.(The current share cap of TRK would be a fraction of the royalties). There is nothing else out there that can offer all the solutions that ivt does, as it can be dressed with software to be whatever you want it to be. Large amounts are being invested to get the transmission production ready. This means that ivt has already passed all the hurdles, it would now take something to go unexpectedly badly wrong to prevent it from going to production. We know that a number of components are already in use in existing transmissions, I believe that ivt uses less components than a 6at. Less assembly time, probably lower manufacturing costs, and solves a lot of problems. It is an indictment of a myopic ego driven industry that this device has been around for so long, and yet only over the past 18 months has it started to make strenuous efforts to use it. The main culprit has probably been cheap petrol until very recently. (two years ago in South Carolina I was buying gas at 32cents (about 18p then) a litre).
TRK has played spoof too long, too many loose threads (Iseki? BMW?) that never come to anything. People waiting for car shows, (I doubt that a car show would be the first place for a production announcement). People waiting for industry gatherings, the next being at the Motorcycle Museum with Mr Darling. No doubt TRK and Honda will be getting a pat on the back for being the loyal remnants of what was once a manufacturing nation, but it doesn't sound like the sort of do to announce that ivt is going into production in Korea or wherever.
Detroit? it's just another display of absurd toys posing as private cars, and yet somewhere out there are 60 expensive engineers (we are led to believe) bringing this device to fruition, and have been so engaged for two years. An update on their progress without mentioning names would be most welcome, and an assurance that TRK will never need a rights issue to continue to fund the Boards lifestyle would also be welcome. (Cashflow neutral?, does that mean breakeven or something else?). I allowed myself to be suckered by the 'deal in my time' grandiosity of a man who is supposed to have a life times experience of the car industry. A 12 month later there is no explanation of why he said it, nor any sign of one. My guess is (ok prayer) that a car was chosen sometime ago to use ivt and the long silence is due to wanting to be able to offer the car in volume numbers as soon as it is announced. There could be more than one manufacturer on the same course.
