Thus - The New Ashtead?
harrycash - Wed, 21 Dec 05 :
a placing by Thus to finance any deal is highly unlikely, their 'paper' is virtually worthless and the 'dilution factor' would never be acceptable to Thus bigger shareholders - to even get this 'off the floor', they would have to offer a significant discount on the present shareprice to get it underwritten by the 'big houses', what discount on 15p, don't tink so, but we will see; to buy YC for 100m, or less if they bargain well, with 'riders' on retained YC clients/revenues is likely a very good deal even with 'borrowed funds' at prefered rates; their present 'bank facility' is at prefered terms and I'm figuring their lenders are very obliging given Thus's track record since demerging from SPW.
just had conversation with a so called 'specialist telco analyst' over a pint and sandwich; the rumour, and I would add that it is only a rumour as he could not back it up, is that Thus are in some way involved in an audacious deal with certain VC's for a possible 'strike' at a 'major telco', not the likes of YC but much bigger; he inferred that C&W are putting themselves about pretty frantically trying to do a deal, but Colt also came into the conversation; he said that Thus's management are seen as the best in the sector,(pity the shareprice dosen't reflect that} with VC's confident they could 'carry off' such a deal. My thoughts on this are that Thus have always maintained their stradegy was based upon their UK model, most of the bigger telco's like C&W and Colt have interests outside the UK model so would Thus be interested given this fact, bearing in mind VC's are very good at 'stripping out' value from oversized outfits, they could be looking at Thus to consolidate the UK section of any larger telco. He did say C&W are reportedly struggling with the intergration issues????????? interesting theory, I suppose no more far fetched than most??
