Dec. 21 (Bloomberg) -- China ordered its third-largest zinc
smelter to halt production after a river was polluted by a
toxic spill, Reuters reported, citing a report by Shanghai
Television.
Shenzhen Zhongjin Lingnan Nonfement Co. Ltd.'s Shaoguan
plant in Guangdong province was told to close after levels of
cadmium, a toxic metal, reached 10 times their normal level in
the North River, Reuters cited the television station as saying.
The smelter can produce 180,000 metric tons a year, Reuters
said.
