She-Ra . You seem to generalising about shoppers preferences in much the same way that you accuse me of doing. DO people wanting to purchase digital cameras only go to supermarkets? or use the web? if you want just a competitively priced and cheap camera with no advice then I would accept the point. But retailing is fragmenting and there is still the place for a specialist shop which usually makes its margins on accessories.
In the States Walmart ,Target etc do sell guitars and musical accessories and I was referring to a states side experience. But maybe my point could have used a UK reference.
It would interesting to learn of your evidence that proves that Jessops doesn't get the same customers returning on regular basis; different from supermarket footfall I would agree but different in the sense of discrete spend per item, total spend per visit multiple visits/total spend per year etc. I take it that you are not suggesting that the customers visiting supermarkets weekly habitually purchase digital cameras.
I think I will stick with my understanding of retail marketing whci has stood me in good stead from 78p
