It occurs to me that GTL resources, which is a company pioneering the manufacture of liquid fuels (gas-to-liquid) from refinery flare gas and naturally occuring gas is rather a neat play for those who worry about shortage of oil. Methanol which is what they will produce is a good feedstock for loads of useful chemicals. Dont forget also that Herr Hitlers regime pioneered the production of commercial quantities of fuel and oil from the hydrogenation of coal. It wasnt a cheap process, hence out of favour, but when push comes to shove it could be done again, probably with much greater efficiency. all these technologies would be very useful in the switch to the anticipated hydrogen based energy of the future.
