Dr B, agree with your last comment - that is the point. Peab1, I think ultimately it would always be preferable to aim for a healthier lifestyle with more excersice & a balanced diet, there would be more benefits healthwise than just loosing weight. But I think the point is that people considered for treatment with drugs (as a last resort) are those that find it extremely difficult, or find themselves unable to manage their diet/lifestyle in this way. Plus, in a number of NHS hospitals there are limits set on BMI & Hba1c before they are considered for lower limb joint replacement surgery. So their weight & diabetes need to be well managed/controlled. Therefore drug therapy may be the only option for some. But I agree that the target market will be obese diabetics (as opposed to just the obese)as these drugs lower Hba1c levels. The question is how?
