With a $4 million investment, a UK-based computer company has started up Pakistan‘s first commercial-scale PV module manufacturing factory. Humayun Mughal, CEO of Akhter Group PLC, says the new subsidiary, Akhter Solar, already has plans to double its current 15 MW capacity in 2007 while branching into production of mini-PV concentrator trackers for solar home systems (SHS). Mughal says Akhter will begin commercial production in August of multicrystalline modules ranging from 45 to 270 W at a factory in Hatar, Pakistan, located about 50 km northwest of Islamabad, housing its future expansion in a facility being built next door....
