ace seems to me we are revolving around few common themes:

beating the market and/or buy and hold (as it is the least interesting, quite time-wasting even tho for circumstances of this bull run profitable at this point at few places) and frankly not challenging enough to follow the market every day; frustrating, like it or not ;)

So the more you look at it (stats that 90% burn while most likely true is not what the focus should be on), the more it is about having an ability to go in at the right time, do your thing, and if succesful rest assured to some extent your money/time is not wasted or in something too risky to stop you playing the game..

With buy and hold you pick your portofolio and that's it, you go and rest for 5-10 years or so (and it didn't really work for past decade). With CFDs or futures it is whole different ball game and why we watch a lot of the time looking for clues. Call it survival, protection, gambling, making/losing money, sooner or later you end up with short-term trading as a common theme with slightly longer-term outlook.. doh! So all influenced by market, sector or whatever. Whether you have a large portofolio or not or just see ways to enhance the returns (and close to market return of 8% a year could have been achieved with credit cards and ING savings accounts last time I checked), with trading you can lose 10000% percent sure.. However, trading is about finding new, interesting ways of busting money with some sort of risk-management hopefully.. and it is a challenge at least to play against 10% that clock it most of the time.

I am not really interested who makes how much or not.. and I agree it is about psychology, but in this market it is one more induced than changing over longer timeframes for traders (say a week).. Not that I'd advocate trading to anyone, but there's plenty of work and sea of money and losses to be in this space and one of the reasons why people chose it as a profession, business or simply taking on risk apart from excitement of tossing a coin.. last post on real, long-term, buy and hold I swear ;-)
