In short, yes, the telco world has missed the plot, they concentrated on creating 'feature rich' products, which they thought would create 'value' in the mind of the end consumer - in reality it was product innovation led by techies, not customers, and as has now been proved most equipment features are used less than 10% of the time....
Only a hand-full, started to realise that base-line quality and protection would become increasingly critical as 'full-time' call centre/stations/jobs were evolved - add in VOIP and you can see once again that they are all playing catch-up..which I personally am not in the least bit surprised about...
Mobility/cross-platform voice integration and new open channels will cause fast leaps in the demand for QOS and smart (and cheaper) noise/echo cancellation imho...
All we have to hope is that TEO has their stall well positioned, correctly set-out and the ability to 'tailor-make' a compelling proposition - competitively...all of which I think they can...
As I have said, we now need to see if the salepeople can produce the goods, as it is my belief that the techies have done their bit..
