Q. Do we need to go DECT voip wireless any more with evoq now that we have a BT dongle that does > 300ft? The reason I ask is that DECT has to NOW gained the high ground due to the distance that it covers vs BT with its (historically) very short 20ft or so range...I wonder if at any point the punters will realise that you can buy an evoq plus a £20 dongle (with 100m range) and all but outperform a fancy state of the art DECT device (and of course use it as a multi function device for music). What is most interesting of all is the fact that DECT is only delviering 50ft of range with quality. Me I have heard a demo of an evoq from someone at the end of their garden over a skype voip bt dongle. To my simple ears it works!The destructive powers of new technology are only destructive if we explain to the punters the fact?

In fact, according to Jonathan Wall at leading UK retailer Dabs.com, Skype phones are consistently in the top 3 most searched-for products on their site, and are currently the number 1 most searched for item.



On the other hand, the GN 9350 works very nicely with VoIP. When I plugged in the USB cable, it installed immediately via plug-and-play, and I was able to use it with my existing VoIP system. The sound quality through the earpiece was clear and crisp, and I was able to wander about 50 feet away without any perceptible loss in quality (the company claims up to 300 feet). Sound quality at the other end of the call was not quite as good -- even at highest volume and using the headset (as opposed to the ear piece), voices were clear but a bit distant. The GN 9350 is a useful product for those who have the appropriate phone equipment and who use both traditional landline and VoIP phones. At a list price of $349, however, it would probably be wise to invest in a less-expensive model if you're concentrating on one type of communications system or the other.




My little santa wish for 2007 is that we find some savvy marketing chaps who can in words of one syllable explain how £60 + £20 > MAY (can we use JB's reviewer to perform an Sb and send the info to DABs) $349 for the skype user community?

$349 equates to £249 in UK money....
