TEO - Ready to go into Orbit!
J Bravo Esq - Fri, 22 Dec 06 :
Ok copied review below as promised but have been asked to withhold company name and details at this stage...for no other reason than the fact that Qstik do not want him bombarded with calls before they become our customer which I'm assured they will be!
To Clement Clarke Communications
I've been testing the [Clement Clarke Communications Qstik] EVOQ Bluetooth headset for a couple of
weeks now and I have to say it's overall the best headset I've used. My comparisons are to the Sony
Ericsson HBH range and the the Jabra range from the BT250, BT800 and my most recent headset of
choice the tiny JX10. I've broken my findings down in to categories:
Design
My first thoughts were that this headset looked a little too big and potentially heavy. Thankfully this
turned out not to be the case. The headset is both comfortable to wear and secure. I find the ear bud is
not too intrusive on the ear unlike the Jabra JX10 which, although very small and light, can become
painful to wear for long periods. I find I'm able to comfortably drive from London to Birmingham wearing
the EVOQ without any comfort issues or need to remove it for 'breaks' which I always had to do with the
JX10.
The buttons on the EVOQ are positioned very ergonomically, one large button on the body of the headset
for answering calls, and two on the back for volume keys. This is another massive gripe on the JX10
where the buttons are just too small for use when in call. This too is a testament that Bluetooth headsets
don't need to be small, if anything, the bigger they are the easier they are to use.
Usability
I had no problems pairing up the EVOQ with a range of mobile phones and BlackBerry devices. I didn't
come across a single device where I couldn't answer or end a call from the headset and no problems
adjusting in call volume either. I was particularly interested to see how the EVOQ would cope with the
new voice dialling feature and voice command facility in the new BlackBerry Pearl. I had no issues at all
using this and found 100% accuracy in the results (even when driving at speed with the car windows
down). The BlackBerry Pearl was able to pick up the contacts from my address book that I wished to
call, and the voice command facility (in which you can ask a BlackBerry about its device statistics such as
battery strength and signal coverage) worked like a dream. The call clarity was excellent and I tricked a
few friends where at the end of the conversation I was asking people if they realised I was on a headset -
people can nearly always tell but nobody I spoke to had any idea I was on a headset.
I have found the battery life to be excellent. I've made a few long voice calls and some long (3 hour +)
journeys in the car with it connected to my BlackBerry, and I've only had to recharge it once so far - again
another major gripe on the JX10 which has pitiful battery performance to the point where I always keep a
wired headset in the car as well.
Extras
I think the content provided with the headset is everything you could need. It's massively important that
you get a mains charger and an in car charger with a headset, both of which are provided here. The
desktop stand is also a very nice touch as is the magnetic car bracket for it. I always find people like nice
things on their desks and the weighted metal stand that comes with the EVOQ satisfies that need. I also
like the fact I can plug a mini USB cable straight in to the stand as well, especially as this is the same
cable used for my BlackBerry, which means I don't have to free up lots of USB ports!
Altogether I was really impressed with the EVOQ (to the point where I'm not sure where I've put my Jabra
JX10). I'd definitely recommend this headset. As a side point you're aware that I work as a moderator on www.BlackBerryForums.com which is the single biggest online community for BlackBerry with some 70,000 members. We have a review section on the site for peripherals and (with the manufacturers blessing) I'd certainly like to put up a review of the EVOQ headset as I'm sure many new BlackBerry Pearl owners are eager to hear about headsets that work as good as the EVOQ with voice dialling. I'd also happily put up a review on the news section of www.airtimemanager.co.uk
