Gill added, " Although the problem is still occurring, the latest initiative that took place last November has been to install a Headset Amplifier Unit in the BT call centres. The Amplifier Unit is inserted between the telephone and headset and has been designed to limit the exposure to noise to comply with the new EU legislation levels. The level set by the EU is an 85dB SPL average over an eight-hour period. Although the numbers appear to have decreased, the jury is still out and work continues to resolve the problem."
