Superscape becoming Supercharged?
HolidayFunds - Fri, 29 Dec 06 :
To be positive, once the bear case falls back to 'kids don't want to play games on phones', I see that as a strong buy signal. I thought that particular cry had been well and truly crushed a long while back.
Clearly, plenty of punters do pay to download games OTA to their phones and the purchase of Jamdat by EA for $680 million (well over a year ago now) is a clear signal that the future potential of mobile gaming is now widely understood.
What the bear case should squarely focus upon is how Superscape fits into this already multi-billion dollar global market.
The negative for me at the moment is that Superscape are not really a GLOBAL player now; but, the flip side of crushing those ambitions (at least for now), is that the Americas-focused business is far more likely to generate short-term profits.
The Q2 results have given a few people the 'shakes', since that was the first quarter for ages where publishing revenues did not grow strongly (QoQ). If EITHER the Q3 or Q4 numbers DO AGAIN provide evidence of substantial growth in this core business, then 13pence will appear to have been an absolute steal.
I guess bears must pray that the millions of people still buying more game-capable phones have not been tempted to download a game or two over the festive season. My bet is that they will have and, more importantly, the 3D factor will increasingly favour Superscape's competitive offering.
Anyway, let's see what January now brings. Happy New Year.
