Sorry I don't agree with you on Small Caps, there are many posters on this board doing very well on these. If you want to reduce risk then just pick ones which are making money Today, preferably with a decent current PE and a track record of growth. They do exist, look on the list here and you will find some.
I agree the tips of 'jam tomorrow' on companies which have never made a profit are very risky. Tempting, and some do come off, but as you say, for every one of those there are many that don't and you lose money as you watch the sp fall. As an example - Healthcare Enterprises (HCEG) springs to mind, I have seen that tipped so many times, even by Hargreaves Lansdowne at 60 odd pence, the sp went under 20p last week. If you want a multibagger then HCEG maybe the type, but imho you tend to lose if you have a portfolio with too many of them. But look at this board's list of tips and you find much better.
