Generally, there seems to be a growing consensus that 2006 is going to be a good year for 'biotecs'. Certainly the FTSE Techmark mediscience index is looking good (I know PRM aren't a constituent but they are judged against that index).
To be more specific, the current market for proteomic technology is worth $6 Billion and is expected to grow to $10 Billion by 2010. PRM are a global leader in applied protemics and have a large number of patented biomarkers covering various cancers, CJD/vCJD, Alzheimers etc. These biomarkers are invaluable in diagnosing disease, particularly when used in conjunction with PoC technology (via protein chips) and also for enabling the drug companies to determine the effectiveness of and the right target populations for their new drugs.
As you can see from the terminology, this stuff is hard core, cutting edge science and can therefore put off investors. However, the tide is turning - large pharmas have started to recognise that they can’t survive without this science and PRM’s intellectual property is likely to be crucial to their success. The general market trend is another bonus; combine this with the fact that PRM’s price is depressed at the moment and you have a coiled spring waiting to be released.
The price is currently 75p. It has recently reached the high 90’s on speculation that a deal is forthcoming. Indications (from the interim report) are that there are several deals in the pipeline any one of which could cover the current market capitalisation. The chart seems to show that on such positive news 150p is easily attainable (and sustainable).
