Polymers made from renewable resources will be the focus of the facility.
19 December 2005 – Stanelco, the microwaveable tray sealing and biodegradable polymer firm, is to build a £3m (E4m) production and research centre in Wales after receiving a significant Regional Assistance Grant.
The project will create 60 jobs at the operation, which is to use technology from Stanelco’s Biotec arm, which aims to replace conventional plastic packaging with “biodegradables from replenishable sources such as starch,” says the UK firm.
The company worked with the Welsh Assembly and Blaenau Gwent Council on the investment.
Meanwhile Stanelco is also reporting progress in its Greenseal radio frequency tray lidding technology and is predicting orders for a supplier to Asda, amounting to more than 50 conversions. The company is also partnering with Carclo on injection moulded water soluble capsules for drug delivery and dietary supplements on which the companies jointly own a patent.
