s66blade - Wed, 27 Dec 06 :

Went to the game yesterday.

Man City looked ordinary. They survived being beaten by 3/4 goals by putting 4/5 men on the goal line every time we got into their area. Makes it difficult to put the ball in no matter who you are.....a lucky rebound is the best you can hope for.

We played well on the whole despite key players being unwell - Webber and Davis were suffering - they picked up a virus pre-christmas, Geary went off injured very early on. Tonge didn't look fully match fit.

Best player IMO was Gillespie. Look dangerous on the ball, got into useful areas when not. Quinn also had a good game. Nice to see Armstrong back in the side (albeit as a result of Geary going off).

Dickie_T - I agree with your sentiments about Portsmouth......it is a very hard place to go and get anything as West Ham, Everton and Reading discovered.
