Gohunk...how can the city and yourself fail to see the importance of this technology within their auction business model? The potential is limitless...and the fact that they paid cash, shows that this was a well researched decision. We will see more about what they propose to do it with a statement later this month I reckon. Trust me...in ecommerce terms, this is a great move and at an amazingly low price. The city is full of people who don't understand business...only ratios, multiples, and anything figure based. One example of this would be when Yahoo refused to buy Google back in the day...they were offered it at a very small price, and Yahoo laughed. Obviously, a price comparison site is not comparable to Google...but the point is, the technology is very important to the auction and classified ads business. Smart move and the city will only take note...when the profits start rolling in.
