Sefton Resources thread for all ADVFN users
gondola - Thu, 21 Dec 06 :
sue,
that post can almost be considered of sufficient quality to be rendered a gondola seminar - it makes a refreshing change from tosh submitted by numpties.
your comments are not specific to ser but in more generic terms set out the stall for assessing smallcaps as potential investments.
i urge readers to take note of some of the salient points within it and then to apply them to sefton. at the very least, having done so, im sure it would make some exercise caution, possibly even quake in their boots. in particular, it would make the nonsense spouted by minerman and his alleged source look like a spoof. specifically, and lifting verbatim from sue's post (my responses in capitals):
I enjoy reading this thread, so many wonderful characters.(I AGREE, BUT MODESTY PREVENTS ME FROM LABOURING THE POINT)
On every thread you will find people who believe one day their AIM listed share will one day make them rich. History shows us that only a very small amount of penny share companies make people life changing amounts of money. When small caps do rise the majority of investors sell out for small gains.(ARGUABLY RIGHT)
If you look at the charts for most Small Cap companies you will see an average of 2 spikes per year. This is where most PI's get sucked in, thus leaving them to sit and wait out for the next spike where they can bail out.(NOT AN OBSERVATION I HAD MADE, BUT I'LL TEST IT'S VERACITY IN FUTURE)
There are of course plenty of quiet times for the investors in these companies, this is when tempers rise and personal abuse rife, I guess this is only natural.(ESP. FOR THE LIKES OF MINERMAN AND MEATBALLS WHO DO NOT HAVE A DIVERSIFIED PORTFOLIO)
Be weary of people who appear to know more than the average PI, no PLC will willingly allow information to be passed outside a company, the punishments are too severe. This is not saying snippets of information do not leak, generally this is a ploy by the management in an attempt to keep PI's happy. This practice is generally used by managements who are not producing the goods.(THE LAST LINE OF THIS PARAGRAPH IS A VERY SALIENT POINT - AND REINFORCES THE POINT I HAVE OFTEN MADE OF ELLERTON TELLING QUINMAN RE FUNDING SORTED ETC, AND COMMENTS MADE AT AGM AND ALL THE REST I NEED NOT REITERATE). IT WAS OBVIOUS TO ANY ADVANCED NON NUMPTY OR EXPERT LIKE MYSELF THAT WHAT THEY WERE SAYING WAS NOT CREDIBLE BUT NUMPTIES, EAGER TO PROFIT SOAKED IT UP LIKE A CHOCOLATE SPONGE TO CUSTARD -YUM YUM)
Regarding the true facts of a company, well there is generally enough information in the public domain to show you if a small cap is worthy of investment of in fact shorting. (AGREED - HENCE WHY I BASED MY VIEW ON SER ON FACTS IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN AT 12P, NOT ON MINERMANS SOURCE)
1. How long has the current management been in place? FAR TOO LONG CONSIDERING THE LACK OF ACHIEVEMENT
2. How well did they perform in their previous jobs? WELL IM SURPRISED AT JDM WHO DID WELL AT TEATHERS BUT HIS RECORD AT SER IS V POOR
3. How much cash has been available to the management over the past 5 years (ZIPPO OR THEREABOUTS DESPITES THE ILLUSIONS OF OPTIMISTS), from this amount how much has been turned into profit (BARELY SUFFICIENT TO COVER OPERATIONAL COSTS TO GENERATE SUCH CASHFLOW - LOOK AT THE BALANCE SHEET FOR CRYING OUT LOUD NUMPTIES. THE FIGURES DON'T LIE) or how much has been wasted? FAR TOO MUCH
4. Is the company attracting new directors or institutional investors? NO, AND I TOLD THEM IT WOULD NOT DESPITE NUMPTIES COMING AWAY FROM THE AGM SAYING INSTITUTIONSL INVESTORS WOULD JUMP ABOARD AFTER CONSOLIDATION.
5. If the company is not in a closed period and the share price is considered by many to be at a low level, are the directors buying shares?
These are just a few of the many questions you should be asking yourself, before you invest.
I do not hold shares here, although I have shorted the company a few times in the past 24 months, 3 times I made a considerable amount of money, once I lost a large sum. (WELL, I DON;'T WANT T BOAST SINCE IT IS NOT A DESIRABLE TRAIT, BUT I PREDICTED MY SHORTS CORRECTLY EVERY TIME AND POSTED THIS before THE EVENT, NOT AFTER AS MY POSTS ON HERE SERVES TO TESTIFY)
Be warned all posters on a bulletin board have their own agenda, and rightly so. I take all information posted by PI's with a pinch of salt, I like to rely on my own research.(GOOD POINT - BUT A LOT OF NUMPTIES ON HERE NEED TO INDULGE IN A LOT OF READING BEFORE THEY ARE SUFFICIENTLY COMPETENT TO UNDERTAKE RESEARCH. THEY MAY BE BETTER ADVISED SEEKING THE VIEWS OF THOSE REGULATED TO OFFER ADVICE, ALTHOUGH I THINK THAT IS UTTERLY POINTLESS SINCE THOSE REGULATED IN MY VIEW kNOw VERY LITTLE THEMSELVES)
Best wishes to you and your families over the holidays.(SAVE FOR ILL MANNERED NUMPTIES LIKE MINERMAN, MEATBALLS AND FLEABAG. IN THE CASE OF THESE MISFITS, I HOPE A LONELY TIME BECKONS)
