Rolls-Royce Inc. is preparing to test new fighter jet engine fans in a building designed to help seal the tremendous noise the fans will produce. The fans that create the vertical lift for the Air Force's planned F-35 jet fighter will be produced at Rolls-Royce's Indianapolis plant, where a Jan. 6 dedication ceremony is scheduled for the $20 million testing center. The jet will feature special engines that will enable it to hover, rise and land like a helicopter. The fans will be produced in Indianapolis under a contract that Rolls-Royce expects to bring in about $10 billion in revenue over about 30 years. Final assembly of the F136 will be at GE Rolls-Royce Fighter Engine, a joint venture located at Evendale, Ohio. General Electric Co. owns 60 percent of the venture.
