Roche, Aspreva say US FDA grants immunosuppressant CellCept orphan drug status
ZURICH (AFX) - Roche Holding AG and Aspreva Pharmaceuticals Corp said the US
Food and Drug Administration has granted immunosuppressant Cellcept, developed
jointly by the two groups, orphan status.
The orphan drug status aims at finding new treatment methods for rare
diseases.
Aspreva is currently conducting a phase III study to test the use of
CellCept for treating Myasthenia Gravis (MG), a paralyzing, chronic,
neuromuscular disease of the immune system which affects some 70,000 to 100,000
people worldwide.
