Wenger praises Smith and Bentley

Arsene Wenger has singled out youngsters David Bentley and Ryan Smith as examples of why he may not need to spend money in the transfer window...
Both Bentley and Smith have already been involved in the first team this season, playing key parts in the clubs so far fruitful League Cup campaign, and look set to have a big role to play in the Gunners long term future.
Wenger had this to say.
"I have many good young players at 17, 18 or 19 who can come in and really make an impact like Ryan Smith, Quincy Owusu-Abeyie and David Bentley."
"These boys all have talent and it is useless to get players in unless I am convinced they are miles above them."
Having been criticised in the past for failure to bring through many of the clubs young players, Wenger now feels that the production line at Highbury is starting to finally produce players of the quality he is looking for.
"For a long time I felt the young players did not have the needed quality to play for us, now I feel they do. We have worked very hard with [head of youth development] Liam Brady to change it and we have made a big improvement. It is now a matter of patience. We must wait until they are ready to play but sometimes if you don't throw them in, you don't know."
With Arsenal's Carling Cup run, currently at the semi final stage, mostly fueled by the clubs young fledglings, Wengers faith seems to be well placed. And while the youth setup, much like the first team, has a cosmopolitan look about it, the likes of Bentley, Smith and Hoyte show that the English talent is there and ready to make an impact.
