MY brother is a very close friend of Chris Fishwick (ex_aberdeen asset mgt - 'the unacceptable face of the city' as he was described by a parliamentary commission when they were investigating the split-caps debacle a couple of years ago)..he tells me that shorts can only ever succeed when the majority see the stock as a sell..in SOLA's case the minority see the stock as a sell while the majority see the stock as a buy based on strong fundamentals and earnings visibility extending well into the future. IN the next 18 months we will see this company grow into a major wafer producer in China. That means one thing. A rising share price.
Apologies to the thread for todays abusive postings directed at that person. I have filtered him. What matters is that the company can meet its obligations to its customers, employees, creditors and shareholders and if they can do that then it should be a profitable ride for the next 18 months.
Regarding the US economy. There is one thing that provokes fear in the hearts of market participants and that is rising interest rates to dampen any expected rises in inflation. I do not believe the Fed will raise rates again in 2007. I also believe the US market will experience a fall but the medium term outlook for the US economy is optimistic. The world cannot afford an American recession. I do not believe that will happen. I also believe the major economies will continue to buy US bonds to support the US deficit. They can't afford not too.
SOLA is an aggressive growth company with experienced mgt, strong customer relations and a cost profile that most other companies would sell their souls for. SOLA's main market will be China.
