jt - ref link in yr 24334 - excellent thought-provoking article.I believe the essence is that large pharma, being reliant on the revenue stream they get from existing mainstream drug sales, are entrenched, and may well view individual biomarkers pointing to new drugs or individual therapy as competition to their existing mass-target drug-income approach.
Biomarker research companies who concentrate on the excellence/validation of their products whilst ignoring the commercial big pharma competitive implications do so at their peril.
Big pharma need to be convinced that in embracing/collaborating with the new "omics" companies that they wont damage/impair their life-blood revenue-streams.
Whilst PRM is one such biomarker company,it`s plain that,as the article says, "The answer is,penetrating analysis of the clinical and economic impact of their products, rigorous patenting, determined negotiation and disciplined market behaviour". It goes on to say " Technical innovation is not in itself a value proposition"....and...."The biomarker company needs to be well-connected within the clinical community"......
From what we know of PRM they are certainly rigorous patenters, determined negotiators and are well connected within the clinical community.
The article concentrates on biomarkers and their ultimate value(or not) to big pharma. It seems to me that PRM with their current marketing efforts (TMT etc)are stepping back from biomarkers themselves and are offering the analytical tools/package which will enable big-pharma themselves to `scour` the biotech horizons for those indicators which will neatly match their existing clinical and economic needs. In essence, it`s not so much the actual biomarkers themselves which are the "value proposition" (to PRM) it`s the methodology of analysis behind their mass-discovery which is the `jewel in the crown`.
