President George W Bush: Polluter of the free world

MegRyan - Fri, 23 Dec 05 :

jl202- Greenland will take about 1000years- but remember if Greenland goes then a lot of other ice elsewhere is also going to go. So the 7m sea level rise will take less than 1000 years. Other factors we do not yet know also are the rebound effects of land currently near to sea level which will also rise as the ice is unloaded. These rebound effects also trigger earthquakes and submarine slides (like storegga) which in turn spawn tsunamis (one hit tye Shetlands, Scotland and the east coast from this slide as a consequence of the rebound of Norway)

To melt Antartica completely we are talking longer than 1000 years- simply because of its inertia- but how long I would not like to say.
