Under normal circumstances I would agree it make sense for ITOCHU to biuld a stake. But being Pet partner, in no so transparent business environemnt such as that of the Middle East, Pet's backers would get suspicious of ITOCHU's intentions. Such people are control freak and wouldn't want others to share in their control, ie 'their' company(let alone the cake). I think even Pet wouldn't be happy as the issue of conflict of interest may arise with Pet having its hands tied and trailing behind ITOCHU. In a western business environemnt, it's a different matter altogether, but not in the ME I am afraid.
But a very interesting point you make, generating interesting discussion.
