You may be right. However, if that was the only case, why has the US sent Cheney AND Ramsfield? Surely, one would have sufficed? Traditionally yes, a Christmas visit is the norm. But I think this time it is a case of one stone 2 birds.
The media, including the BBC have reported these visits as UNEXPECTED, so not much to do with Christmas. Plus from other news agencies ones, including TV's debates, there is a lot of unsatisfaction with the elections and concerns of the pro US politicians in Iraq. The coming days/weeks will confirm, no doubt.
